One of the Best Decisions I've Ever Made: Nicaragua 2011

I know this post has been a long time coming. I have tried sitting down and writing this, but it's just been so hard to wrap up that week into a blog post. There is so much to describe, analyze, and share; I just don't know what all to tell and what not to tell. All the things I witnessed down in Nicaragua, are still so real to me. I saw God there so many different times, in so many different people, locals and non locals.

On the plane to Miami on July 23rd, I was terrified. I wanted nothing to do with the flight, trip, or anything about it. Once we landed, however, all my worries were gone. God is so good at supplying what I need at the right times. We landed in Managua around lunch time. We got to the compound(El Ayudante) around 2:00 that afternoon. The rest of the day was pretty relaxing. Bed time was at 10 every night.

On Sunday, we had church. Breakfast was at 7 every morning. We left for church at 9:30 that morning. We had lunch at 12 noon. There was a soccer game, Nicaraguans vs Americans. I believe we lost! I had a migraine after dinner.

On Monday, we actually got started and had a schedule! We went to VBS in the morning. We went to a special needs school, the kids there were so sweet! Then we came back for lunch, and we got ready for the second half of the day. I stayed back on the compound to help sand and stain doors and windows.

On Tuesday, we went to a second VBS. This school took an hour to get to, the kids there were so energetic! I went to the house the second part of the day. I became a brick mason! We got the rest of a wall done in 90 minutes! Later that night, Bead Amigas, came go El Ayudante. They sold homemade jewlery to us.

On Wednesday, I went to a third VBS. This school was much closer than the previous one. The kids there were considered middle class, the neighborhood was relatively nice. The second half of the day, I went to an adjoining neighborhood to help distribute food bags to previously picked out homes. The home I prayed over, I was just drawn to it, like a magnet. I knew that this was the house that I was going to pray over. The youngest child, a daughter, had a heart condition.

On Thursday, I went to the volcano, Cerro Negro. I had intense vertigo on the way up so I had a hard time coming up. I walked/slid down the volcano! It was so fun! The way down at least. We then went back and ate lunch, and had 2 hours of down time before we went to downtown Leon. We had dinner at Hotel Suyapa on the beach, it was beautiful!

On Friday, was our last day at El Ayudante. We left around 9 that morning. I cried on our way out of the neighborhood, it was so hard to leave there. It felt so final, like I was never going back there. I so hope that I will, I have a job down there that I need to finish. I left half of my heart down there and I have an intention of giving the rest of it away to the children there. Later that morning we went on a zip line that was terrifying. Then we went to the market to shop, it was really crowded and I had to be with a guy the whole time. Then we went to our hotel and ate dinner there.

On Saturday, we left the hotel around 10. We got to the airport shortly after, our flight got delayed three times! Instead of leaving at 12 that morning, we left at 2:15! We landed in Miami around 6, and it took us about an hour to get through immigration and customs. We got to our gate, which was wrong and had to move, then they changed it back to the previous gate! We took off around 10 that night, after they discovered a 'minor mechanical discrepancy'. We landed in Nashville around 12:06 Sunday morning. I got home at 1am.

I will make a post later about how I feel about the whole trip, but I feel that this post is long enough! I will also add a picture post later

Yet Another Hiatus

After a short summer bloggy 'vacation', I've decided to post again. I've just been enjoying summer and hanging out with friends. I've even considered completely stopping posting on here, seeing as though not many people even read this. I think I'm just doing this for my sake, to document a day in age of the technology generation.

As that was said, here's a quick update: I'm 16, I turned 16 on the 10th. I had my sweet 16 on the 15th. It was pretty awesome! Axel is 50 pounds now, and almost 10 months old, he's still a cutie! I'm leaving the country on Saturday morning to go on a mission trip to Nicaragua-yes I'm scared out of my mind! School starts back on August 11th-EW. No, I haven't gotten my license yet-yes, I REALLY REALLY want it! Mom is just standing in the way!

Well, that seems to be about it for updates. It kinda stinks being 16 without a license and a car!

Today is a Special Day!

After crafting this blog exactly a year ago today, I'm proud to say that my blog's birthday is today! I would post a link to my first post, but it is slightly pointless and silly! So, I am not stopping you from looking at it yourself! A lot has been going on lately...track has taken up all my life, then homework comes next, and then after that might be a social life? I'm not sure where that went! Haha!

Well, this blog has been my way of communicating with my family and dgroup. I love this, because everything gets easier! This is obviously the technology generation! I'm quite proud to be growing up in it!

This blog has also been my way of expressing my creativity, I have several things that I have written. Some include, short stories and poems. I love being able to be creative and not feel ashamed!

Overall, I am very proud my blog has made it this far! I am sad to say that this is not something I update everyday, but that might not be all that bad! Well, there is homework calling my name! Luckily I don't have track today, otherwise, I would be quite behind with that...

Track!

So, today was the first day of track conditioning. It was much easier than I thought. Maybe, that's because it's only the first day....idk. We did like a 7 minute mile, sprints, high kicks, high jumps, butt kicks(i'll definitely have a bruise later), karokes, wallsits for a total of 5 minutes, and hard core workouts...it HURT!

But I discovered, that I'm in much better shape than I imagined! Next practice is on Thursday. I have practices on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays until 4:30!

Tumblr...sigh

I have had a Tumblr for almost a year. I decided then that I didn't think I needed it. Anyways, I've started getting interested in it again about a month ago when I looked at my friends tumblr and really liked it. Well, now I started over with the same one and I am officially addicted. I have about 20 followers as of now, and just starting about a day ago? That's pretty bleh, haha. I'm following like...35 people.

For those of you who read this and would like to check it out, here's the url:

The 5 Love Languages

I remember back about a year ago, when Ashley talked about the 5 love languages. I have been thinking a lot about that lately. The 5 love languages are: Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Receiving Gifts, Acts of Service and Physical Touch. I remember knowing that gifts don't really mean that much to me, and I wanted to take an online quiz or something to find out what my main love language is.

Let me clarify that a love language doesn't necessarily mean a husband/wive, boyfriend/girlfriend relationship. It also includes friends, and family members. A love language is just the way you feel most loved by someone. Or the way you tend to feel more loved.

I took the quiz online, and I scored highest in Quality Time. Which technically means that I like spending time with friends, family or special people. That is when I feel most loved. Which is accurate, because when I an spending time with friends, is when I feel most comfortable.

My second highest was Words of Affirmation, which is when people praise you or compliment you. It is a way to feel loved by what people say. I also believe that is accurate, because I am always self conscious and when I get a compliment, I always hold my head up higher.

My lowest score was Receiving Gifts. I know that is accurate too, because I don't feel that gifts mean that someone cares about you. They could just be getting you a gift because they feel they have to. Gifts are just an object, a material thing. Spending time with someone or compliments are there forever. You can't take them back.

I feel that knowing your love language(s) is a good thing, so you can use that to the best of your ability. Whether it is physical touch or acts of service, knowing the way you feel most loved can come in handy.

This is the website I went to, and took the quiz. It is fairly accurate and doesn't really require any personal information. Take the quiz! Find out what you're love language is!

Happy 2011!

It's what...day 2 of the new year? I'm kinda loving it!

Today is my close friend Ashton's birthday. She had her sweet 16 at the skate center and then we all went to Moe's for dinner, YUM! Happy Birthday Chica! Love You!

I can't wait to see what God has in store for me this year in 2011, I hope it's full of health and good friendships and NO DRAMA! Drama followed me around all last year, and I want to drop it at the door of 2010! I can't wait to be a junior, I can't wait to drive, I just can't wait! I'm SO excited!((I'm sure my parents aren't...oh well!)

Well, I'm going to be posting some old posts that I wrote last year(That's so weird to say! It really was only 4 months ago!). A friend told me to post them on here, so I will. I'll get around to that later in the week. School is going to get in the way of that! Ew...School.

2010 Recap

Well, this year has been very eventful and quite stress free. I'm sad to see this year go but I am welcoming this new year, 2011, warmly.

To recap this year in a few paragraphs would be hard, but I'm going to do it anyways!

-January: I got Pneumonia for the first time and it prevented me from starting track conditioning and I also missed a week of school. We had 7 snow days that month and February. We were all very sick of snow to say the least! The swine flu frenzy finally started slowing down and everything returned to normal!

-February: We had more snow days. My best friend turned 15 and we had a huge surprise party for her. The Disney store closed down in the mall and was replaced with Coach.

-March: My sister turned 12. One of my friends found out she tore her ACL. I had to deal with a horrible teacher who gave me a bad grade for a really good research paper! My best friend got really sick for a month with THREE different things! It took her forever to recover.

-April: I joined Blogger. A friend of mine committed suicide( Skylar's Tribute) and her funeral was so moving, I still grieve about her.

-May: We had our final month of Freshman year, we had our end of the year exams. We had a devastating flood. It was called the flood of the century. The levels reached higher than they had in about 500 years. The damage was extensive!(Flood)

-June: I went on a mission trip to St. Louis and I met Jaylen, who changed my life forever(see herehere, and here.) I went to the Eclipse premiere with three friends(see here).

-July: My birthday month, I turned 15! Our family took a trip to Atlanta(see here) I had a really good birthday weekend, right after we got back from Atlanta(see here). I also said goodbye to a good friend from my dgroup. She moved to China with her family(see here).

-August: We started school back again, I began Sophomore year. I'm loving it so far!(see here and here.)

-September: I got my permit!(see here) Football season started(just look through all of September, there're too many posts to link!) EOE was amazing this year!(see here)

-October: Homecoming(see here) and two of my friends got married!(see here) and good old Halloween!

-November: We got to District one finals, it was a good game!(see here). The 7th Harry Potter came out, it was a HUGE thing!(see here). Thanksgiving this year came really fast and I totally didn't expect it to come so fast!(see here).

-December: We added to our family, we got a puppy!(see here) I got sick with strep and it was not fun at all! We had a white Christmas this year!(see here) We also got a Forever 21 in our mall, now that was exciting(:

Well, there's my year in a nut shell. That's not even half of it! I'm so excited to see what God has in store for me and my family and friends in 2011! I'm trying to figure out how they are going to design the new year's glasses...

Meaning

Here's some quotes that i have been thinking of the past few days...:

"Our lives improve only when we take chances... and the first and most difficult risk we can take is to be honest with ourselves." ~ Walter Anderson

Tension is who you think you should be.  Relaxation is who you are.”
- Chinese Proverb

"It is never too late to be what you might have been." - George Eliot

Current Listenings: Give Me Your Eyes By Brandon Heath

Looked down from a broken sky
Traced out by the city lights
My world from a mile high
Best seat in the house tonight

Touched down on the cold black tar
Hold on for the sudden stop
Breathe in the familiar shock
Of confusion and chaos

All those people going somewhere
Why have i never cared?

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so i can see
Everything that i keep missing
Give me your love for humanity

Give me your arms for the broken hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach?
Give me your heart for the one's forgotten
Give me your eyes so i can see
Yeah yeah yeah yeah

Step out on a busy street
See a girl and our eyes meet
Does her best to smile at me
To hide what?s underneath

There's a man just to her right
Black suit and a bright red tie
Too ashamed to tell his wife
He's out of work he's buying time

All those people going somewhere
Why have i never cared?

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so i can see
Everything that i keep missing
Give me your love for humanity

Give me your arms for the broken hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach?
Give me your heart for the one's forgotten
Give me your eyes so i can see
Yeah yeah yeah yeah

I've been there a million times
A couple of million eyes just moving past me by
I swear i never thought that i was wrong

Well i want a second glance
So give me a second chance
To see the way you see the people all alone

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so i can see
Everything that i keep missing
Give me your love for humanity

Give me your arms for the broken hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach?
Give me your heart for the one's forgotten
Give me your eyes so i can see

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so i can see
Everything that i keep missing
That i keep missing

Give me your arms for the broken hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach?
Give me your heart for the one's forgotten
Give me your eyes so i can see
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah

Not much to report today or for this week....it's been full of boring nothings. My grandpa turned 79(?) on Tuesday. We had a giant cookout and celebrated. We got track lighting. That's about it! Oh and my friendish type person, Lauren, is getting married next Saturday, the 12th. She is marrying Ben Kingsley/Kimball(I have no idea what his last name is). They have a 8 month old son named Leo Benjamin. He is soooo adorable. (: So congrats to them!

Will post sometime next week before I go to St. Louis. SOSOSOSOSO excited for that!

Night all,

Perfection

I've run out of creativity...so, i'll talk about my week!

So, Monday was my first official day of summer. I went downtown with Mary and Hannah. We went to Sweet CeCe's and walked around trying on dresses and such.

Tuesday, I started watching season 2 and 3 of House. I finished yesterday morning.

Starting Monday, I got 'reconnected' with an ex of mine. We talk like friends and that's all I ask(: I'm glad I can talk to him again without it being too awkward.

Wednesday, I almost went to the first WNL of the year with Amy and Travis, but that didn't happen, instead I went to church and hung out with Aislinn and Annie and Aislinn's daughter, Sheilyn.

Thursday, I did absolutely nothing....just sleeping in and stuff.

Friday, was Marabeth's birthday, she turned 15 and got her permit! I slept over at her house, and hung out with her insane cousins. I went swimming at night, the first time this year. My hair is still dark red, and I'm still pale!

Today, I left her house around 11 and went to eat with the family, around 12 at Nacho's. We were polite according to my dad. Aren't we always polite? haha

Well, tomorrow. I might be going driving and such....might be crazy for that! Going to church, and i'm not sure after that!

Monday is Memorial day, we might just have a cookout!

Well, that's all for this post!

Thoughts

This was written on 2009 Christmas morning at 2:45AM.

We both walk down the hall, seeing each other, not acknowledging, ignoring, never thought we'd get to this point. Only because she would not say yes. The word 'no', is all to familiar to her. She knows why she must say that horrible word. He doesn't understand; only because he doesn't want to listen. Every time he heard it, it ate him alive, degraded him almost. So he pretends to move on, to preserve his sanity. So he gets involved with another girl. She watches everyday. It is slowly killing her, and he knows it. She tries her best to cover it up. Most of the time it works, but other times he gets to her. She has built up a brick wall around her heart, not able to be broken. Lately, it has started to crumble at the edges, getting weaker towards the center. This brick wall was supposed to be protecting her heart from him. He tries to break through this wall to get her heart back. She can tell he is trying. She fixes the rumbling edges to block him out. It is only a temporary fix but necessary. He is starting to get to her more and more...but he doesn't realize it. She is getting sick of it. She begins to think, contemplate everything that they have gone  through. She begins to wonder if it was all worth it. She wants to tell him everything on her mind, but there are some things better left unsaid. These things can open a big can of worms, cause a HUGE problem. He is a guy, some guys don't care about a girl's feelings or what the effect of his feelings are; but some do. This is what she doesn't know. She doesn't know if he is one of those heartless guys or not. This is the problem that could be caused. The problem itself might grow to be out of control. Which is something they both don't want. The beginning of their relationship was ok. It was the 'more than friends' part that started it all. Ever since, she has been confused as to whether she wants to go back or not. He has hurt her so much, she is numb to most of what he does now. She has no clue what to even think anymore. Should she continue down the hall? Should she smile at him? Say something? No. She does none of those things. She decides to let herself wait. She decides to see if he will come crawling back again...but then again, that might never happen...

The Wizard of Oz, St. Louis, Finals, and Summer!

These past few weeks, I have been helping at my sister's middle school also my alma mater. The put on the Wizard of Oz. It was very good! Much better than I expected! Opening night was on Thursday, it was ok...there were missed cues and lines, but it's ok! The other nights made up for it!

In less than one month I will be going on a mission trip to St. Louis! Last year I went to Chicago(best trip ever). I don't think anything could top Chicago! We leave in the morning on June 12 and we get back on June 19. It will be a short trip but so, totally worth it! I'm very excited!

This next week, well these next 4.5 days, we are having review and finals. On Friday, we are having a half day along with our 1st period final. I can't wait for it! I'm sooo ready for summer!

Speaking of summer, I plan on going swimming a ton, paint ball at least once, and air soft battles at the park at least once. That will be fun too, I hope to hang with a bunch of people this summer when I'm in town and not busy with work, and babysitting.

Well, I have to go study some more for French on Tuesday...that's all for this post!

Cupcakes and Birthdays...

This week has had two birthday's of two friends of mine. Brenna is 15 and so is Kristen. Happy Birthday guys!

Tomorrow is Kristen's. She will be 15! So, I made cupcakes. Well...i managed to eat 1/4 of the batter, half of the cupcakes, and ended up with a stomach ache...:(

Today was the first day back to school after spring break. Wasn't fun! I got a head ache and homework. Eh, it's school right? Its bound to happen.

In English, we are finishing up Romeo and Juliet. My teacher(no names), makes sooo many sexual innuendos, it's sick. About the play too! It's like she has nothing better to do then make gross comments like that! Please...

In a friend of mines 3rd period. This kid jumped up and threw up 5 times in the trash can. After he was finished, he laughed and said 'Oh, well I feel better now.' He didn't even go home...sick!

After school, i took a nap, texted a bit, then went to Kroger and got a balloon for my friend and cake batter to make the cupcakes which ended up making me sick! ugh

It was totally worth it though! They are/were amazing. Except that half of the broke in the middle and only 8 of the 18 survived. So, I'm going to take them to school and make her eat them! Isn't that what your supposed to do? Eat them?

On Saturday afternoon, me and a friend went to Goodwill and adventured around and had fun! We got a picture of Marek, the awesome employee who didn't understand the awesomeness of a cheetah cat. Then we painted old scrubs with our names on them and called it a day.

Yesterday, I went to go see a play called Oliver Twist. I saw it at Center For the Arts in Smyrna, Tennessee. The cast, crew, and show was amazing! I give them two thumbs up! They are still performing through May.

After that, I came home and went to find the magical abyss with Katie. We found the Harpeth river that runs rather close to my house that I never knew about! There were abandoned appliances and tanks there. I think people dump crap down there thinking no one would ever find it. There was also a giant bever dam. It was fun.

Well, that's all for tonight. Have a good week! Go laugh until it hurts :)

New

I am new to this whole "blog" thing. i was told it was the new thing. like Facebook, but it's more open. you can share more. i'm not sure if i'm used to this or not. but i'll give it a try :)

i am an avid blog reader, i enjoy reading about other people's lives...not weird right? i will not submit any of my personal information.

i most likely won't post everyday, this is like one more of those things i would keep up with. like i have time already. well, this should be all for today. i will post again later. it is a mundane Monday and nothing needs to be done.
