One of the Best Decisions I've Ever Made: Nicaragua 2011

I know this post has been a long time coming. I have tried sitting down and writing this, but it's just been so hard to wrap up that week into a blog post. There is so much to describe, analyze, and share; I just don't know what all to tell and what not to tell. All the things I witnessed down in Nicaragua, are still so real to me. I saw God there so many different times, in so many different people, locals and non locals.

On the plane to Miami on July 23rd, I was terrified. I wanted nothing to do with the flight, trip, or anything about it. Once we landed, however, all my worries were gone. God is so good at supplying what I need at the right times. We landed in Managua around lunch time. We got to the compound(El Ayudante) around 2:00 that afternoon. The rest of the day was pretty relaxing. Bed time was at 10 every night.

On Sunday, we had church. Breakfast was at 7 every morning. We left for church at 9:30 that morning. We had lunch at 12 noon. There was a soccer game, Nicaraguans vs Americans. I believe we lost! I had a migraine after dinner.

On Monday, we actually got started and had a schedule! We went to VBS in the morning. We went to a special needs school, the kids there were so sweet! Then we came back for lunch, and we got ready for the second half of the day. I stayed back on the compound to help sand and stain doors and windows.

On Tuesday, we went to a second VBS. This school took an hour to get to, the kids there were so energetic! I went to the house the second part of the day. I became a brick mason! We got the rest of a wall done in 90 minutes! Later that night, Bead Amigas, came go El Ayudante. They sold homemade jewlery to us.

On Wednesday, I went to a third VBS. This school was much closer than the previous one. The kids there were considered middle class, the neighborhood was relatively nice. The second half of the day, I went to an adjoining neighborhood to help distribute food bags to previously picked out homes. The home I prayed over, I was just drawn to it, like a magnet. I knew that this was the house that I was going to pray over. The youngest child, a daughter, had a heart condition.

On Thursday, I went to the volcano, Cerro Negro. I had intense vertigo on the way up so I had a hard time coming up. I walked/slid down the volcano! It was so fun! The way down at least. We then went back and ate lunch, and had 2 hours of down time before we went to downtown Leon. We had dinner at Hotel Suyapa on the beach, it was beautiful!

On Friday, was our last day at El Ayudante. We left around 9 that morning. I cried on our way out of the neighborhood, it was so hard to leave there. It felt so final, like I was never going back there. I so hope that I will, I have a job down there that I need to finish. I left half of my heart down there and I have an intention of giving the rest of it away to the children there. Later that morning we went on a zip line that was terrifying. Then we went to the market to shop, it was really crowded and I had to be with a guy the whole time. Then we went to our hotel and ate dinner there.

On Saturday, we left the hotel around 10. We got to the airport shortly after, our flight got delayed three times! Instead of leaving at 12 that morning, we left at 2:15! We landed in Miami around 6, and it took us about an hour to get through immigration and customs. We got to our gate, which was wrong and had to move, then they changed it back to the previous gate! We took off around 10 that night, after they discovered a 'minor mechanical discrepancy'. We landed in Nashville around 12:06 Sunday morning. I got home at 1am.

I will make a post later about how I feel about the whole trip, but I feel that this post is long enough! I will also add a picture post later

Nicaragua!

This Saturday, I am going to be getting on a plane. I am going with my church, on a mission trip to Nicaragua. We leave Saturday at 6am! This next week is going to be so physically and emotionally demanding. Am I ok to say that I am scared out of my mind?? I have NO idea what God has in store for me and my life this next week. I so hope that I can impact someone's life down there like I did to Jaylen in St. Louis last summer; here's his picture if you don't remember what he looks like:

I miss him like crazy. I certainly hope to see him again!!

Anywho, I'm almost packed for the trip. I think i'm most nervous to be flying on a plane, I haven't been on one for almost 3 years. The regulations have really changed since then. I hope I won't need to get a 'full body pat down' ha!

Well, for those of you who read this; I could really use some prayers for this next week! Specifically that I will adjust really well, I will be able to connect with the kids, and that I can stay really healthy considering how underdeveloped the country of Nicaragua is.

With saying that, I really need to finish packing!!

I'll post again when I get back! It'll be after July 30th, most likely.

Today is a Special Day!

After crafting this blog exactly a year ago today, I'm proud to say that my blog's birthday is today! I would post a link to my first post, but it is slightly pointless and silly! So, I am not stopping you from looking at it yourself! A lot has been going on lately...track has taken up all my life, then homework comes next, and then after that might be a social life? I'm not sure where that went! Haha!

Well, this blog has been my way of communicating with my family and dgroup. I love this, because everything gets easier! This is obviously the technology generation! I'm quite proud to be growing up in it!

This blog has also been my way of expressing my creativity, I have several things that I have written. Some include, short stories and poems. I love being able to be creative and not feel ashamed!

Overall, I am very proud my blog has made it this far! I am sad to say that this is not something I update everyday, but that might not be all that bad! Well, there is homework calling my name! Luckily I don't have track today, otherwise, I would be quite behind with that...

Happy 2011!

It's what...day 2 of the new year? I'm kinda loving it!

Today is my close friend Ashton's birthday. She had her sweet 16 at the skate center and then we all went to Moe's for dinner, YUM! Happy Birthday Chica! Love You!

I can't wait to see what God has in store for me this year in 2011, I hope it's full of health and good friendships and NO DRAMA! Drama followed me around all last year, and I want to drop it at the door of 2010! I can't wait to be a junior, I can't wait to drive, I just can't wait! I'm SO excited!((I'm sure my parents aren't...oh well!)

Well, I'm going to be posting some old posts that I wrote last year(That's so weird to say! It really was only 4 months ago!). A friend told me to post them on here, so I will. I'll get around to that later in the week. School is going to get in the way of that! Ew...School.

2010 Recap

Well, this year has been very eventful and quite stress free. I'm sad to see this year go but I am welcoming this new year, 2011, warmly.

To recap this year in a few paragraphs would be hard, but I'm going to do it anyways!

-January: I got Pneumonia for the first time and it prevented me from starting track conditioning and I also missed a week of school. We had 7 snow days that month and February. We were all very sick of snow to say the least! The swine flu frenzy finally started slowing down and everything returned to normal!

-February: We had more snow days. My best friend turned 15 and we had a huge surprise party for her. The Disney store closed down in the mall and was replaced with Coach.

-March: My sister turned 12. One of my friends found out she tore her ACL. I had to deal with a horrible teacher who gave me a bad grade for a really good research paper! My best friend got really sick for a month with THREE different things! It took her forever to recover.

-April: I joined Blogger. A friend of mine committed suicide( Skylar's Tribute) and her funeral was so moving, I still grieve about her.

-May: We had our final month of Freshman year, we had our end of the year exams. We had a devastating flood. It was called the flood of the century. The levels reached higher than they had in about 500 years. The damage was extensive!(Flood)

-June: I went on a mission trip to St. Louis and I met Jaylen, who changed my life forever(see herehere, and here.) I went to the Eclipse premiere with three friends(see here).

-July: My birthday month, I turned 15! Our family took a trip to Atlanta(see here) I had a really good birthday weekend, right after we got back from Atlanta(see here). I also said goodbye to a good friend from my dgroup. She moved to China with her family(see here).

-August: We started school back again, I began Sophomore year. I'm loving it so far!(see here and here.)

-September: I got my permit!(see here) Football season started(just look through all of September, there're too many posts to link!) EOE was amazing this year!(see here)

-October: Homecoming(see here) and two of my friends got married!(see here) and good old Halloween!

-November: We got to District one finals, it was a good game!(see here). The 7th Harry Potter came out, it was a HUGE thing!(see here). Thanksgiving this year came really fast and I totally didn't expect it to come so fast!(see here).

-December: We added to our family, we got a puppy!(see here) I got sick with strep and it was not fun at all! We had a white Christmas this year!(see here) We also got a Forever 21 in our mall, now that was exciting(:

Well, there's my year in a nut shell. That's not even half of it! I'm so excited to see what God has in store for me and my family and friends in 2011! I'm trying to figure out how they are going to design the new year's glasses...

Officially...

Well, I'm officially half way to 30. No, I feel no different. It's like...hard to describe. I don't feel a whole year older or anything. It feels like any other day of being 14. Isn't that what most people say? Haha, seems like it.

We got home from Atlanta at around 11:30 last night, we were all exhausted! Jaimie was sick with a cold in her head and a headache. I had a headache most of the day yesterday, it finally went away 2 hours after I took Advil.

We got to Atlanta around 1pm on Wednesday, we got settled into the hotel, we stayed in a Hyatt. It was NICE! The room was a little small but that's ok, we all got along...sometimes. About 15 minutes after being there, we walked to the Marta. We rode to 5 Point and transferred to a stop which I don't remember the name. Then we walked to the Coca Cola museum. It was HOT! Then we walked back to the station, we went to Underground Atlanta and walked around. Then we rode back to Buckhead and walked back to the hotel.

We left again about an hour later and went to the Cumberland Mall. I went to H&M while mom and dad got reservations at The Cheesecake Factory. I shopped for about 40 Minutes. I bought a shirt and skirt. That is all I had time for!

Thursday was Six Flags! I had tons of fun! I rode the Georgia Cyclone, Dahlonega Mine Train, Mind Bender, The Georgia Scorcher, and The Great American Scream Machine. Then I rode Monster Mansion, Thunder River, Splash Mountain, and Gotham City Crime Wave.

Then we went and ate at Gordon Biersch. It was a brewery/pub. It was VERY good. I got turned onto Arnold Palmer's, they are very good! We shared two pizzas, we got Hawaiian and Pepperoni.

Then Friday, we checked out at 11. Then we went to Ikea(INSANE), then we went to Perimeter Mall to go to Forever 21. Then we went to a strip mall in Calhoun, I went to Rue 21. Then we ate Chik Fil A for dinner. Then we finally got on the road around 9. We got home around 11:30 that night.

It was a good vacation, I went to 2 major cities in less than a month(: I feel accomplished!

Reminiscing of a Better Time

Since I have gotten back from St. Louis, I have had serious withdrawal! I miss Jaylen and working with him...I miss being busy and working for the greater good. I'll probably never see him again and I'll probably never get that experience back. I miss having something to do every single day and rarely getting a chance to sit down. I miss the work, I miss the hectic schedule and most of all, I miss being able to get away from my Williamson County bubble.

I have humbled myself with the experience, it was eye-opening, and all the usual stuff someone says about a mission trip. Sometimes I want to take back what I did and re-do the entire thing, just so I have a little more time. So I could have been more enthusiastic about it and more into it. I wish my heart had been in the right place before I left, I wish I wasn't so self-absorbed for the trip. I wish that I could have done more with my time.

Enough with all the wishing, and wanting to take back's, it happened and it's done with. At least I got the experience, and I'm not regretting a single second of it! I'm glad I was chosen by God to go on that trip, I hope I'm chosen to go to Nicaragua next year to serve and share. I can't wait to see what God has in store for me this coming school year. I want to live it up and not waste any second of it.

I'm glad I met the people I did on the trip, and I'm glad I have more friendships than I did when I left. I'm glad I kept the friendships I had before I left and when I did. I'm glad I did what I did on the trip. I'm glad I picked the younger kids over the older ones, if I hadn't then I would have never met Jaylen. That's something I''m so thankful for!

Well, I'm getting off my little soap box and calling it a post.

Heat Exhaustion

Well, this week has been 100 degrees. Sometimes even higher, I don't like it! We started FBA on Monday. Only a day and a half after i got back to Tennessee from St. Louis! So, I was already sleep-deprived and over worked. I am working in South America, specifically Ecuador.  I am making blow dart guns. Well, technically marsh mellow shooters. I have been heat exhausted all week, I have had above and beyond the amount of vitamin d I need in a week. NOT GOOD! Tomorrow is the last day, so that means tear down. Man, what am I going to do with my weeks now? It's going to be filled with summer enrichment work. I have to write a paper, read a book, complete a power point slide, and something else, that's all for only three subjects! I can't wait though, it's going to be a good year...I can feel it!

Yesterday and today, I have been working outside in the yard, cleaning it up a bit. I have many bugs bites and scrapes! My hands are so crampy and tired! Why am I complaining though? It's not nearly as hard as somethings people I know do! They stay out and work all day long and their yards look amazing! I'm so jealous! Not everything goes as planned though!

Friday, I think I have to babysit Nathan and Calvin. Not sure yet.

Saturday, I'm going to sleep in for the first time since before St. Louis!

Speaking of St. Louis, I rescued a bird in the front garden. He must have fallen out of the nest and gotten stuck in the underbrush. He was chirping and struggling! It was so sad! My friend, Sophie, named him Louis. He's a saint now(:

He's been hanging out around the same place I found him. Not sure if the mother abandoned him or not! I sure hope not!

That's all to report! Until next post!

I'm Back!

St. Louis was amazing! I enjoyed everything!

We stayed at New City Fellowship Church, in a dorm on 82nd street. It was older, we had to climb 4 flights of stairs about 7-8 times a day, sometimes even more! My room slept 6 people, there were only 5 of us. We got there on Saturday around 8pm. We had debriefing, and meetings until about 10:30; i took a shower after that. We got our rooms settled and we slept until 8 the next morning. We had church at 8:30 on Sunday morning. The service was pretty boring considering we were so tired! The choir sang gospel music and Swahili songs. Then we had more meetings after that. Then we ate lunch with a host family, they provided salmon, sour dough bread, salad, and ice cream! Afterwards, we had yet another meeting. this time about our tutoring. We would tutor a child from Monday-Thursday. Then we had dinner, and after that we started our back yard bible clubs! We went door to door to get the word around. We came back, took showers and had debriefing. Then we went to bed.

Monday-Thursday, we woke up. We had breakfast at 7:15am, went upstairs at 8 and had devotions. Around 9, devotions was over. We had the tutoring from around 9:10-12 . My tutoree was Jaylen. He is adorable!

He is 5 years old. I miss him soooo much!

After tutoring we had lunch upstairs, then we split up into groups for our work projects. On Monday, I stayed at the tutoring program. Tuesday, I went to work along the side of a main road, cleaning it up and making it safer. We did that for 2.5 hours in the pouring rain, hail, thunder and lightening! Not safe! Wednesday, I did the same thing, except it was in the blazing hot sun, lovely 95 degrees! A homeless man came up, picked up some gloves and got to work right with us! We bought him lunch afterwards. Thursday, I helped build a wooden fence for a woman named, Ms. Flora. She has 15 kids and 50 grandkids! WOW!!!

On Wednesday, that was the last day of backyard bible clubs. I just so happened to get a mosquito bite on my leg and I used the top of my tennis shoe to itch it. Little did I know, I was rubbing the top layer of skin off! It hurt for awhile, but on Friday, it got infected!

Thursday was the last day of tutoring. I had to say goodbye to Jaylen! I cried...quite embarrassing on my part. Considering I rarely cry in front of people. Mr. Dan had all the tutors in a circle while the kids went to the bathroom. He said Jaylen had cried for a good hour and a half and when he told me that, I broke down!

Friday was our free day. We woke up at 8, had breakfast. met outside the dorms and left for the arch. After the arch, we walked to get lunch. I had subway. Then we split into groups for the city museum and shopping. I went to the museum. I got my leg bandaged, because it got infected. I had to limp around it hurt so bad!
Then we went to a Cardinal's game. They won 6-4!! It was a good game! I almost lost my camera though!

Well, I'm tired and sore! I'm going to get off and post again sometime next week!

Dedicated to Carrie Codington!

Carrie,

You are so sweet! I love you to death! I'm so stinking depressed about you moving to China this summer...and not being able to come to St. Louis...but, God has the best and most amazing plan over there for and your family to serve him! I can't wait to see what you accomplish in the next few years! You will have a blast over there and we will Skype at least once a week! I'm still working on getting that set up...haha.

Meeting you a few years ago, was a blessing. I don't even want to imagine what my life would be like if I hadn't have met you! You are super sweet and have a passion to serve! Your readiness to serve and pray are so overwhelming. You have not only changed me, but you have changed the lives of everyone around you!

You have made me a better person and that's definitely a good thing! You have a kindness that not everyone had. I look up to you a lot! I'm so glad that I met you, and I'm glad that we are best friends, sisters and daughters of God! I hope you have an amazing time in China and fulfill the plan that God has for you!

I love you oh so much!
(Me and Carrie at Sopapilla's onWednesday!)

New

I am new to this whole "blog" thing. i was told it was the new thing. like Facebook, but it's more open. you can share more. i'm not sure if i'm used to this or not. but i'll give it a try :)

i am an avid blog reader, i enjoy reading about other people's lives...not weird right? i will not submit any of my personal information.

i most likely won't post everyday, this is like one more of those things i would keep up with. like i have time already. well, this should be all for today. i will post again later. it is a mundane Monday and nothing needs to be done.
